I’m back in Portland from a 4 day trip down to California. My journey started in San Francisco on Voce business. Afterward, I popped down to LA to visit some old friends and to meet new ones. Here’s a brief recap of my trip’s highlights:

San Francisco

Client meetings
Met with Socialtext and Splunk. Not much to tell there that would be of interest outside of those on the account side in Voce.

Sweet game of kick ball
The highlight of my time in the Bay Area was playing kick ball and hanging in the park with Team Voce. Dave Black had an epic diving catch during the kick ball match (more pics on Flickr). Luttringhaus and Gallow drenched each other in Super Soaker match. And, June didn’t let us down with her break out performance with a bat, toy micrphone, and a picnic bench. It was really fun to spend some non-work time with everyone at Voce, and I’m looking forward to our August retreat!

Dinner with my sister
I love my sister. We had a good dinner at this awesome restaurant called Gator’s Neo Soul Cafe. It’s Southern Food Chic. Check it out if you get the chance!

Los Angeles

Met up with Ethan Bauley
If you don’t know Ethan (@ethanbauley), you should remedy that now before you look like a band-wagoner. He currently works at M80 and has an impressive amount of knowledge in areas relevant to social media that aren’t discussed much in the 2.0 echo chamber. Kyra introduced me to him online. The three of us shared an invigorating conversation about the current economic, technological, and cultural trends that matter to social media. I’m super excited to delve into the books, links, and people that came up and then to share them with you.

Nic Adler interviewed by Larry King
I had the honor of attending a Larry King interview with Lou Adler and Mario Maglieri who started the Rock-n-Roll legacy of the Sunset Strip that extends to this day. I was there to support Nic Adler, Lou’s son, who was there to represent the next generation of the Sunset Strip. I have been helping Nic out in my spare time with The Roxy’s website, which he and his staff have been dominating. They’ve really turned their club around by connecting with the fans via social media. Kyra arranged for a short documentary (like 3 mins or so) to tell the deeper story of what they LAist has already broke—Roxy 2.0: How Social Media Brought the Club Back.

Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF)
I saw a couple of sweet shows at The Roxy during the Sunset Strip Music Festival: Hot Hot Heat and The 88’s. My good friend Chad recently relocated to LA from Portland and connected with us for The 88’s. It was a ton of fun, and big thanks to everyone from The Roxy (@theroxy) for an awesome time!
